PUTT SHOT SWINGS

INTRODUCTION

Green shot swings will be discussed within the following sections.

  1. PACE COUNT
  2. FIVE O’CLOCK SWING DETAILS
  3. INCHES BACK SWING DETAILS
  4. BALANCE BACKSWING AND FORWARD SWING
  5. CONCLUSION

First, we discuss pace count.

PACE COUNT DETAILS

The author will determine the number of paces between the ball and cup to determine which swing type to use.

Remember to use plumb bob method when ball cup distance is less than 5 paces to find low side of hole.

Remember the steps to plumb bob.

  1. Use calibrated putter. When author’s putter clubface is aimed at 5 o’clock, the club shaft hangs plumb.
  2. Use right eye open.
  3. Use left hand to hold putter.

FIVE O’CLOCK SWING DETAILS

If the distance between the ball and cup is about twenty-four paces, then a 5 O’clock backswing will be used with the expectation that the ball should come to rest within one pace of the cup.

INCH BACK SWING DETAILS

If the distance between the ball and cup is less than twelve paces, then an inch back swing will be used.  The length of the inch backswing will have a backswing length equal to the number of paces between ball and cup times 1, 1.5, or 2 inches depending on the speed of the green.

EQUAL LENGTH BACK AND FORWARD SWING

Back swing and forward swing length should be equal.

CONCLUSION
